Busy Bee Meets Maggie McGaugh, Instagram Strategist

Hey busy bees,

It’s been on my heart for a while to relaunch this series and continue to connect and feature other female entrepreneurs. I think it’s so important that we collaborate and encourage one another, and give each other a platform to share our unique stories.

If you’re new to this series, I launched it when I first started my business as a way to empower and motivate my readers. There are so many unique stories and businesses out there, and finding one you relate to can give you the confidence you need to possibly start your own business.

If that’s not your thing, there is something in this series for EVERYONE! We talk about inspiration, productivity tips, how to balance work/life/parenting, and more!

Today on the blog, I’m so honored to feature a female entrepreneur from Fort Worth, TX. We connected through instagram and she is one of my favorite people to follow because of her helpful tips and fun posts. I also admire her vulnerability and courage to share the tough stuff.

Meet Maggie McGaugh, Instagram strategist!

I'm so honored to share her story with you, in hopes that it will inspire you to take steps towards your big dream! Let’s get started!

Meet Maggie:

I’m a 23-year-old Instagram strategist! I live in Fort Worth, Texas with my goldendoodle and husband. I love to read, watch old seasons of reality tv shows, and eat alllll the chocolate. I was born and raised in SC, but when I met my now-husband on Snapchat, I moved here to marry him!

Tell us about your entrepreneurial journey. What led you to launch a business of your own?

I took a full-time position right out of college. 3 months in, I was MISERABLE! I felt unappreciated, I was nervous about the ethics of the company, and they had changed my job title on day one. I wasn’t even doing what I loved! So, on the spur of the moment (and with a major nudge from God), I gave my 2-weeks notice. I went home, created a website, designed a logo, ordered business cards, and launched Social Maggie! I got a client that very week... which was a blessing considering my boss told me they no longer needed 2 weeks’ notice a mere 3 days after putting in my notice!

I think I eventually realized that I could settle for comfort in my career and continue to feel depressed, drained, and unhappy. Or, I could take a risk and put my all into it. I’ve had no regrets. Running my own business has been a dream.

Walk us through a day in the life of Maggie! What does your schedule and/or routine look like?

I used to work every day from home in my PJs. I swore by this method, but, eventually, it took a major toll on my mental health.
Nowadays, I sleep in until my body (or husband) wakes me up.
I do some household chores and get ready for the day.
I may do some work in my home, but I’ve learned that doing my work in my office is a great way to find as much of a work/life balance as possible.
Once I get to my office, I start tackling my to do list, but I do it in whatever order I want! I’m a type A planner, but I find that I do my best work when I do tasks as they inspire me.

I also love taking breaks to watch Netflix, eat a snack, or run errands. I used to feel guilty about this, but when I learned that most 9-5 employees really only work about 3 hours a day overall (which I totally believe as a past 9-5er), it made me realize that working non-stop is impossible as an entrepreneur! So, I really focus on working anywhere from 3-5 hours a day. After that, I remind myself that my body and mind need rest.

What keeps you motivated through the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur?

Following inspiring and HONEST entrepreneurs on social media! It’s a great reminder than I’m not alone.

What advice or tip would you give to other female entrepreneurs reading this blog?

ALL of my clients have found me on Instagram and Facebook Groups! I didn’t have to reach out to anyone. I never attended networking events. It is possible!

You just need to consistently show up and PROVIDE VALUE!

What do you feel is your biggest responsibility as a female entrepreneur?

My main responsibility is to be an encouragement to future and current women in business. I’m also ALL ABOUT authenticity. I don’t keep my struggles to myself. I want my life and business to be an encouragement and reminder that no one is alone.
