Busy Bee Meets Boss Babes Part 14. Honesty Liller

Hi busy bees,

I'm so excited to feature another boss babe on the blog this week. We connected through the RVA boss babes network, and I was immediately drawn to her passion for serving others.

This week's guest has a unique and powerful story. She has overcome struggles with addiction and substance use to become a wife, mom, CEO and advocate for others. I am so honored to share her story with you.

Let's get started!

Meet Honesty:

I am a woman in long-term recovery from a Substance Use Disorder. I have been drug and alcohol free since May 27th, 2007. I have two awesome kids and a supportive husband. I am from Hanover County. My passions are helping people with addiction, running/exercising, and learning about myself every day.

To be able to look in the mirror every day and love what I see has taken me some time, but well worth it now. To be a leader, you have to love yourself and be kind to those you are leading.

Tell us about your business, and describe the journey that led you to where you are today!

I am the CEO of The McShin Foundation, Virginia’s leading peer to peer Recovery Community Organization. I came to the program ten years ago and now I am able to help others with addiction as well as their families.

I started using drugs at age twelve and didn’t really stop until I was twenty-six. So, that was the path that got me to my position now.

Through this process I am now Co-Founder of CARE Talks, LLC. CARE stands for: Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Empowerment and our talks are events held in the USA. The events have speakers that share addiction solutions with the audience.

Walk us through a day in the life of Honesty! What routines and schedules do you have to stay productive and focused?

I start my day with a kiss good bye from my husband and coffee! Then I do a daily women’s devotional, a gratitude mindset from my intuitive coach, pray, exercise, and I just started to meditate with an app on my phone. In between that I am taking care of my 8 year old son and getting him off to school. My daughter is 15 so she is pretty self sufficient.

Throughout my day I have reminders in my phone and around me in my office to meditate, pray, breathe, pause, and just be present. My list on my phone get tackled every day and I love to delete them when I am done!

What keeps you motivated?

Knowing how much my life has changed in the past 10 years keeps me on point. When I get into a funk, I just think of all that I am grateful for.

I have come a long way, I could be dead right now. My path of addiction has gotten me where I am, a strong woman that’s life mission is to help our community and be present in her life.

How do you balance it all and keep things in perspective?

Wow!! This one hits home. It has taken me years to create and maintain the balance that I have today. There have been lots of struggles along the way. To be honest, I surround myself with positive, hard working people. My staff at McShin are amazing and I have been able to delegate so many of my duties out to them and let that CONTROL go!!! That was a big one for me, that control. It is so much easier being a human on this earth with less control.

My husband is so supportive of my career and helps me with the kids/home all the time. We are a great team for sure. I come off balance sometimes, but I see how and fix it immediately.

What are your favorite tools to stay productive and organized?

I love my lists on my iPhone, post-its, google calendar, notebooks for journaling and meetings.

What does success mean to you?

I truly believe we are all here on earth for a purpose. I have found mine, I hope you will keep searching for yours.

If everyone was just a little kinder every day to one another, just imagine what our world would look like. Success for me is getting up everyday, being productive, learning something every day about myself or others, and going to bed every night feeling fulfilled.

Honesty, I admire what you do so much! Your story is so powerful and I admire you for overcoming your struggles to achieve what you have today. I know there are many people out there who are inspired by your story. Thanks for all you do for the RVA community.
