Busy Bee Meets Boss Babes, Brandi Bovell

Hey busy bees,

As most of you know, I gave birth to my precious baby boy on February 8, 2019! Grayson Daniel is almost 4 months old now, and I went back to work after 13 weeks of maternity leave. I truly enjoyed every single second at home with my son, and it’s been a transition getting back into the swing of things. You can get some more pictures and a peek at my life over the past few months over at @busybeecoach on instagram.

I am dipping my feet slowly back into my business; that’s why I was so excited when Brandi Bovell from Affordable Spa Services reached out to me about collaborating and connecting. We are both part of the RVA boss babes network and I had the honor of going to her amazing spa, Affordable Spa Services for a facial. My experience was INCREDIBLE and I highly recommend Brandi and her team after being pampered!

I got the 60 minute customized facial with Amanda R. When I arrived, I changed into a spa wrap and Amanda told me that she would start by gently cleansing my face and then shining 2 bright lights on it to figure out the needs of my skin. After doing that, she saw that I had some cell build up and dehydration. So for my facial, we went with a mix of the “brightening” and “fountain of youth” facial. It was SO relaxing; I almost fell asleep on the table a few times. In between masks and creams, Amanda would give me a head and neck massage. I also got an eye and lip treatment! My favorite part was when she exfoliated my skin and painted on the masks. Everything smelled AMAZING! I came home with a new blueberry and coffee exfoliator that I can’t wait to incorporate into my routine! Check out my post-facial selfie below!

This photo was taken when I got home with NO makeup on. We even went out with friends that night and I didn’t want to put anything on my skin! My skin was glowing all night and I felt like a million bucks!

Thank you Brandi and Amanda for an awesome experience! Now let’s switch gears and get into the owner, Brandi’s story. I’m so excited and honored to have her on the Busy Bee Blog!

Tell us about how you started Affordable Spa Services and opened your business!

I started my 1st business in August of 2011 with the goal to help others feel less broken. Affordable Spa is a holistic wellness spa that offers a plethora of unique massage therapy options, many different advanced skincare products, treatments, and super high tech machines (or magic wands as I like to call them) that produce some pretty amazing results on the skin. Additionally we offer wax hair removal, and holistic wellness treatments.

Some of our eccentric holistic offerings are yoni steaming (google “yoni steaming Gwyneth Paltrow”, you won’t be disappointed), CBD infused treatments, ear candling, mineral baths, body scrubs, and Ionic foot detox soaks.

I also offer nutritional healthy lifestyle coaching in my capacity as a Certified Natural Health Practitioner. We only hire licensed and Insured practitioners. We are unique because we are able to accept HSA and FSA cards for our services.

How did you get the guts to launch your own business, and how did you get the courage to make it happen?

The fiery Sagittarius in me was never a great employee because I did not like working “for someone”, I work much better “with someone”.

To be honest I mentioned opening my own business half joking to my husband, and he pushed and did not stop pushing until I did. He really always knows how to steer me along in the right direction. Steve is a Rocky fan and his favorite Rocky quote whenever I get down, or am struggling with anything is ‘You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.’

What’s your favorite way to start the day and feel productive?

My absolute favorite way to start my day (after black coffee of course), is cardio and returning communications. I find I answer emails, texts, or smoke signals best while on the stationary bike or arc trainer burning calories. The multi tasking keeps my thoughts off the workout while clearing my mind to respond professionally, intelligently, and mindfully to all of the things, and next thing you know you’ve done 2 or more hours of cardio. Then I feel like a total badass the rest of the day.

What keeps you motivated during the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur?

My kids. We do it all for them.

What are you favorite tools to stay organized?

1. Old school paper and pen to- do lists, i find scratching a completed task off the list to be very satisfying.
2. Frederick- A Marketing Platform that organizes all of my customer data and automates my marketing based on data way to complex for me to understand, but I do not need to, it does it all for me. Easy button!
3. Group Me- A communication app that makes messaging a group or individuals super easy, and keeps everything in one place. Great for employee communication, or communication with our members.
4. Google My Business- A great free tool to market my business.
5. Ripl- I love this app for creating cool social media images, and short videos.

Last piece of advice for our readers?

The thing I wish I knew 8 years ago when I started, but am glad I know now:

”Never take anything personally. Business is business.”
